Homeschool Requirements in Colorado

File written notice of intent with local school district

Each year, submit a written notification of intent to homeschool to your local school district by August 1, or within 14 days of starting if you begin mid-year.

Teach all required subjects

Your homeschool program must cover Communication Skills, Reading, Writing, Mathematics, History, Civics, Literature, and Science throughout the school year.

Provide instruction for 172 days per year

You must homeschool your child for at least 172 days during the school year to meet Colorado's required instructional days.

Conduct required assessment in applicable grade years

Every other year, at grades 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11, have your child evaluated using either a standardized test or an assessment by a licensed teacher.

Keep assessment results on file at home

After each required assessment, keep the results in your own records — you do not need to send them to the school district, but you must have them available.
