Homeschool Requirements in Georgia

Submit Declaration of Intent to local superintendent

Each year, send a Declaration of Intent to your local school superintendent by September 1, or within 30 days of starting your home study program. This must be done annually to stay in compliance.

Teach all required subjects

Your homeschool curriculum must cover Reading, Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science. These subjects must be taught for at least 4.5 hours per day across 180 days per year.

Meet minimum instructional time requirements

Provide at least 4.5 hours of instruction each school day for a minimum of 180 days per year. Keep this schedule consistent to satisfy Georgia's home study requirements.

Administer an annual nationally standardized test

Each year, give your child a nationally standardized test to assess their academic progress. Make sure to use a recognized standardized test that meets Georgia's requirements.

Keep test score records for 3 years

After your child completes the annual standardized test, keep the score records on file for at least 3 years. Store these records somewhere safe and accessible in case they are ever needed.
