File annual written notice of intent

Each year, submit a written notice of intent to homeschool to your local school district superintendent by October 1. This must be done every year before or at the start of your homeschool year.

Confirm parent qualification

To legally teach your child at home, you must either hold a bachelor's degree or have your child regularly assessed by a licensed teacher who supervises your instruction. Confirm which option applies to you before you begin.

Teach all required subjects for 170 days

Your homeschool program must cover Reading, Writing, Literature, Fine Arts, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Government, Health, and Physical Education for at least 170 days each year.

Conduct annual student assessment

Each year, have your child assessed either by administering a standardized test or by having a qualified licensed teacher evaluate your child's progress. This assessment is required every year.

Submit assessment results to superintendent

After your child's annual assessment is complete, submit the results to your local school district superintendent. Make sure to do this within any applicable deadline each school year.
