File written notice of intent with local school district

Submit a written notice of intent to homeschool to your local school district by July 1 each year. If you are starting mid-year, you must file within 14 days of beginning home instruction.

Submit Individualized Home Instruction Plan (IHIP) to the district

Prepare and submit your Individualized Home Instruction Plan (IHIP) to your local school district by October 1. This plan should outline the curriculum and subjects you intend to teach, including all required subjects such as English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Health Education, Physical Education, Music, Visual Arts, Library Skills, and Career Education.

Provide four quarterly reports to the district

Throughout the school year, submit four quarterly progress reports to your local school district documenting your child's home instruction. These reports keep the district informed of your child's ongoing progress.

Conduct annual assessment starting in grade 4

Beginning in grade 4, you must conduct an annual assessment of your child each school year. You may choose either a standardized test or a narrative evaluation performed by a certified teacher.

Submit annual assessment results to the district

After completing your child's annual assessment, submit the results to your local school district. This step is required for all students in grade 4 and above.
