Parent must file a notarized affidavit with the local school district superintendent by August 1 each year. The affidavit must include the children's names and ages, proof of immunization or exemption, and the name of the supervisor.

Key Steps to Get Started

  1. 1File a notarized affidavit with your school district superintendent by August 1
  2. 2Provide instruction for a minimum of 180 days per year (or 900 hours at elementary level, 990 at secondary)
  3. 3Maintain a portfolio of instructional materials, reading materials, and samples of the student's work
  4. 4Have the portfolio evaluated annually by a licensed psychologist or a person with a teaching certificate
  5. 5Administer a standardized test in grades 3, 5, and 8 and include results in the portfolio
  6. 6Submit the portfolio log and evaluator's certification to the district by June 30
