Homeschool Requirements in Vermont

File annual enrollment notice

Submit your annual enrollment notice to the Vermont Secretary of Education by March 1 for the upcoming school year, or within 14 days of starting homeschool if you are enrolling at another time.

Teach all required subjects

Your homeschool program must cover Basic Communication Skills, Mathematics, Citizenship, History and Geography, Physical Education, Fine Arts, and Health Education each year.

Provide instruction for 175 days per year

Ensure your child receives homeschool instruction for at least 175 days throughout the school year and keep records to document this.

Complete annual assessment for grades 3–10

If your child is in grades 3 through 10, have them assessed every year using either a standardized test or a portfolio review conducted by a qualified evaluator.

Submit assessment results to the Secretary of Education

After your child's annual assessment is completed, send the results to the Vermont Secretary of Education as required.
